Easter break!!

After a frenzied (but much enjoyed) 5 weeks of vascular surgery attachment, Easter break is finally here! Whew...

Since weeks ago I have been wanting to update, but I never got around to it. Apologies =_=; I feel reprehensible, yet I do not logically know why I should be.

Until I actually sit down and write, here is the colored version of this sketch. It's holidays; that should explain why I had the time to color it in!

And the compulsory question - do you know why we celebrate Easter?

ah, so cute ^__^

we celebrate easter in recognition of Jesus's sacrifice--that he died and rose again--for all of us, to save us from our sins. <3Jesus<3

john 3:16 - "for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whosoever believeth on him shall not perish, but have eternal life."

Praise God for colours (your coloured picture is so enlightening, bringing pleasure and joy) and to live and to be able to (or not) see them. Thank God for our lives and even more the new life in Christ as He rose from the dead. He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today....

Thank God for the talent with colour (among others) He has given you, and for being colour blind (for a purpose). Thank God for our Lord Jesus christ. God is so good. He walks us along life's narrow path.

Love
from home

Easter day is a celebration of the resurrection of Christ.

ermmm...not too sure where did the word easter came from though but do u know why did we celebrate easter? (can refer to Joseph's page)

before easter, there's maundy thursday, good friday before easter sunday.besides,celebrating...i think it's more appropriate to put in thanksgiving as well.

take for example, one of your close relative past away few years.then, every year, at that time, it'll be like a remembrance of his death.

its similar to easter. its a remembrance of His sufferings, death on the cross for our sins and then He resurrected on the 3rd day. Because of this,we know that He is a true, living God.

as for the eggs...i think its just a symbol of life/resurrection.a reminder that Jesus Christ is risen.

this is what i think. i think there are better answers for u out there.God bless...

Love in Christ,
Jolyn

Good question! Since I wasn't sure, I did some research, haha.

Well, the "Easter" celebration in other languages is etymologically obvious - e.g. 复活节 in Chinese, or Paskah in Indonesian (from Pesach, the Hebrew name of Passover, to which "Easter" is intimately linked, not only for much of its symbolic meaning but also for its position in the calendar).

But "Easter" in English is etymologically more complicated - it is likely to derive either from Eostremonat, an old Germanic month name, or Eostre, a goddess of the Saxons, in honour of whom sacrifices were offered about the time of the Passover. In the early English versions of the Bible this word was frequently used as the translation of the Greek pascha (the Passover). Hence the name came to be given to the festival of the Resurrection of Christ, which occurred at the time of the Passover.

As for many of modern Easter's symbols, such as colored eggs and the Easter Bunny, some suggest they are cultural remnants of Eostre's springtime festival (for which rabbits and eggs symbolized fecundity and fertility), that merged with the Christian Passover celebrations after the Germanic heathens were Christianized. And I guess nowadays churches point out that eggs symbolize new life, to tie in with Jesus' resurrection, hah.

Today it is also commercially important, of course (a la Christmas and all the reindeers, stockings, mistletoes), although I don't understand how one can desire to eat a bunny-shaped chocolate.

But all in all, Kahwooi, Jesus was crucified (no historical doubt about it), and rose again (no historical doubt that His tomb was found empty and His body gone too -- interpretation: did someone steal the body!? if so, who and why? how is it possible, with the tomb structure and with the guards? what about the many many witnesses testifying that Jesus reappeared and ascended to heaven? hmm), and "Easter" is to commemorate this. Jesus is real and alive. That has implications - not only to believers, but also to non-believers!

So how do we celebrate Easter? Give cards? Eat Easter eggs? Sing songs? I guess I did all of them, but does it matter? Maybe. But Easter reminded me that Jesus died for my sins, and He rose from the dead - for which my faith is not in vain. And with all the things I have experienced, I am thrilled to be a Christian.

Easter day is a celebration of the resurrection of Christ.

What is resurrection ( to bring somebody back to life again ) if Jesus Christ did not die at the first place? He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities;the punishment tht brought us peace was upon him,and by his wounds we are healed [Isiah 53:5]

I think before Christ is risen, ppl at that time might have thought Christianity is somewhat doomed. But,hey!Jesus Christ is risen from dead on the 3rd day.Praise the Lord!Because He is a true and living God, those who believe and have faith in Him will have hope and promise to eternity.Amen?

Love in Christ,

great to hear from you, jolyn!

i was reading Lk24:13+
Three days after Jesus' crucifixion, some of His disciples were losing faith, and were leaving Jerusalem, on the road to Emmaus. They did this despite having heard that Jesus' tomb was found empty that morning (Lk 24:22-4)! I guess in a way, we all walk this road of "weak faith" sometimes?

But Christ has arisen, and our faith is not in vain - praise God that He is real, and that we can experience Him.
